In an email, Ed Riley identified this beetle (from the photos) as belonging to the genus Colaspis, "of "a group of species I call the "brunnea group. s.str". I'm not clear on which species those are or what characterizes this brunnea group. It does look perfectly identical to the grape colapsis without the brown stripes; however, if anyone else has seen an all-yellow/tan Colapsid (with no brown stripes) I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Beetle was caught by sweep net among grass and tall weeds, on the Little Walnut Creek floodplain off of Northgate near Metric and Rundberg. The beetle was caught for UT's entomology class, which I audited as a volunteer at the insect collection.
