This fly landed on the outside of a second floor window. I was on the inside so could only take ventral photos. I think it may be a Chrysops sp., family Tabanidae, but finding ventral photos of Chrysops to help with species ID is difficult. Please verify my ID and, if possible, add the species. Thanks.
(Debris in photo is pollen on the window.)
Blister Beetle Look-alike?
Richmond, Contra Costa County, California, USA

I thought this was a Blister Beetle, but does not display characteristics. Husband found a number of these while digging in the garden - says they were all underground. He caught 3, and they were very aggressive with each other - chasing & looked like they were trying to sting with their tails (doesn't look like a stinger though, more like pincers.) He saw white liquid come out of the pincers, and they died a few hours later, so we assume at least poisonous to each other.
I want to know if it is poisonous to humans / animals - we have young children, and small pets. Thank you!
