Biography:

I am a masters student at the University of Guelph that has been into 'bugs' and nature since childhood. While at university I began to get into the technical stuff like learning names and morphology. I am an avid (some might say obsessive) collector with a focus on my favorite groups: Staphylinidae, Carabidae, 'Parasitica' and Aculeate wasps. My favorite collecting method is blacklighting and I get pretty excited about it :D. I was in Bolivia on a field course last summer and loved (now miss) the tropics but I will be returning with a trip to Costa Rica in winter 2008.

I have a wide variety of research interests that include applied entomology, forest ecology, biodiversity and systematics. I completed an undergrad thesis of which partly involved identifying southern Ontario ground and rove beetles to species. This summer I have been working in Dr. Marshall's lab/U of G insect collection on a research scholarship and my activities there will involve curating and databasing their staphylinids.
In the fall I will be starting a masters involving the applied ecology and diagnostics of Staphylinidae. Also see: (http://www.uoguelph.ca/debu/people.htm)

I really enjoy this site and owe much to this community for the knowledge and enthusiasm it provides.

Happy collecting/observing,

Adam Brunke
