Biography:
Research in Great Plains Coleoptera, especially Cerambycidae, Silphidae, Scarabaeidae, Histeridae, and have now developed an interest in the North Dakota Weevil fauna. My MA degree is in Museum Science from the University of Nebraska, specializing in scientific collections curation, and I am a research associate of the Florida State Collection of Arthropods. I am currently involved with several coleopteran surveys of the area, including faunal inventories for our city forestry department, and I am the local investigator for the national Emerald Ash Borer survey. I am co-author of several papers dealing with South American coccinellidae, have revised the scarab genus
Glaresis of the Western Hemisphere, and am co authoring papers documenting the scarab fauna of San Diego County CA, including a revision of the genus
Coenonycha. I am an avid collector of all families of beetles for my comparative collection, so feel free to contact me if you are interested in trades. As of Dec 2021 my personal coleopteran collection consists of approximately 19,000 specimens, including an almost complete representation of North American aphodiine scarabs.

I take my role as an editor here quite seriously, and will only frass other contributor's images if they are duplicates or views not needed for identification, or are too poor of quality for further identification. I mean no offense, but I like to keep areas that I am quite familiar with nice and streamlined. Due to my isolation from any major collection, Bugguide is an extremely valuable tool for my research, and as such I only post images that meet or exceed my self inflicted quality standards. I visit this site almost every day and prefer to move my images around the site myself.
My undergraduate degree is a double major in Geology and Art, with a Biology Minor. I am also a professional woodworker, building all of my own Cornell drawers and cabinets for my coleopteran collection.

I have three mutts, Louie, Milo, and Penny, no kids, and a girlfriend that tolerates evenings poking through pitfall traps or staring at a black light in the middle of nowhere for that elusive beetle, I play drums and guitar, with my current project, Guy and a Girl (check it on Facebook, www.facebook.com/guyandagirl2.0)
