Biography:

I grew up in downtown Baltimore and developed a curious fascination with beetles around age 12. I have no idea what sparked this interest as up to that point I had little exposure to the natural world. My 7th grade science teacher introduced me to the Maryland Entomological Society and I remain thankful to those members who taught me so much. I obtained a BS in entomology from Cornell but then changed course to go on to medical school and eventually moved to Maine to be a small town physician. I miss Baltimore but am gradually settling into rural life. I do not have as much time for entomology as I used to, but it is wonderful to watch my three kids armed with butterfly nets running through the fields and forests behind our house. Of course they prefer following moose tracks, catching frogs, and (most importantly) hunting wild pokemon over collecting bugs. But still, I would have killed for such an opportunity when I was a kid.
