Catalog of the Dolichopodidae (Diptera) of America north of Mexico
By Marc A. A. Pollet et al.
American Museum of Natural History, 2003
Online at AMNH

Abstract:
"A catalog of the American species of Dolichopodidae north of Mexico is provided. Fifty-five valid genera and 1288 valid species and 3 subspecies in 14 subfamilies are listed. [...] For each genus, the species list is preceded by notes on its distribution, biology, and ecology as well as a list of pertinent keys and revisions, when such information is available. For each valid species name, the list includes the author, year of publication, page number of original description, type depository and locality, and distribution in North America by state or province and occurrence in other realms, as well as taxonomic notes wherever applicable. Additional distribution records from the literature have been added. [...] Statistics and comments on the history of North American dolichopodid research are presented. The diversity and distribution of Nearctic Dolichopodidae and their relationships with the fauna of other realms is tabulated and discussed."

Revision of the Nearctic Parathalassius Mik (Diptera: Dolichopodidae), with a review of the world fauna
By Brooks, Scott E. and Jeffrey M. Cumming
Zootaxa 4314, 2017
"The Nearctic species of Parathalassius Mik are revised and the world species are reviewed. Twelve species are recorded from the Nearctic Region including nine new species: P. abela sp. nov., P. aldrichi Melander, P. candidatus Melander, P. dilatus sp. nov., P. infuscatus sp. nov., P. melanderi Cole, P. midas sp. nov., P. sinclairi sp. nov., P. socali sp. nov., P. susanae sp. nov., P. uniformus sp. nov., and P. wheeleri sp. nov. Lectotype designations are made for P. aldrichi Melander and P. melanderi Cole. A key to the 15 world species is provided and the distributions of the Nearctic species are mapped. COI mitochondrial DNA barcode sequences were obtained for 12 species of Parathalassius. A morphological phylogenetic analysis of the included species is presented and known ecological information is summarized."

The Dipterous genus Dolichopus in North America
By M. C. Van Duzee, F. R. Cole, and J. M. Aldrich
United States National Museum Bulletin 116, 1921
This is the last revision of the entire genus Dolichopus in North America (it will also work in Mexico, which has no additional species). Descriptions of all species are included. The key to species was supplemented a decade later(1) to account for species described in the 1920s, but dozens more species have been described since the 1930s.

Key to Nearctic Dolichopus Latreille (Diptera)
By M. C. Van Duzee and C. H. Curran
American Museum Novitates 683 and 684, 1934
This is the last key to the entire genus Dolichopus for North America. Robinson (1964) has a key to males of Southeastern species. Stekyskal (1973) has a key to "Group B."
