Emergence Holes - Dorcatoma pallicornis

Emergence Holes - Dorcatoma pallicornis
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
March 10, 2007
More than half-a-dozen individuals have emerged so far, drilling these holes in the exterior of the fungus (a Tinder Polypore, Fomes formentarius). Interesting to note that they still emerge through the exterior face even though the fungus' base is 'open' after being severed from its host.
