Which ant? - Formica pallidefulva
Herring Run Park, Baltimore City County, Maryland, USA

I watched several members of this ant's colony carry spent flowers of this Veronica spp. to a rally point where they were being piled on the ground (the third photo). Any idea why the ants were doing this?

Formica sp. (pallidefulva group) - worker
This Veronica species seems to have a really attractive nectar.

The Formica pallidefulva grou
The Formica pallidefulva group was recently revised taxonomically. See this article for all the gory details: http://antbase.org/ants/publications/21293/21293.pdf . This one is in the darker part of the color variation of F. pallidefulva.
