Polydesmid of some sort? Flat millipede for sure.
West Virginia, USA
August 11, 2006
Size: maybe 3.5 inches
I know it is a flat millipede of some sort (Polydesmidae), and probably a "red-sided flat millipede", but I have no idea how variable millipede species are.

The paranota on this one were yellow/orange and the striping was red, a reversal of the pictures I've seen of the red-sided millipede.

Sorry about the motion blur -- this little guy was moving *fast*! I also have video of this specimen, but the file is uncompressed and therefore unwieldy.

This is a representative of the family Xystodesmidae, order Polydesmida, and coming from West Virginia, it could be a species of Apheloria, Brachoria, or Sigmoria (Rudiloria).
