Red Dragonfly -
Sympetrum costiferum
Mouth of the Elwha River, Clallam County, Washington, USA
September 21, 2014
We saw many of these smallish red dragonflies. They would often flit just ahead of us and land repeatedly on the trail.

New County Record
Stephen, it was pointed out by another user that this species was previously unrecorded in Clallam County. It wold be great if your photos were submitted to OdonataCentral.org as well. If you’re not interested it doing that, I could submit it on your behalf with your permission (you getting credit for the find, of course). Please let me know your preference. Thanks.

OdonataCentral.org
Please feel free to submit to OdonataCentral.org on my behalf.
I have a couple of other shots that I have not submitted that may be the same species. Are they worth submitting here?
I'll also keep my eye open for more this year. These were taken in an area we walk in frequently.

Thanks!
I’ll take care of that in the next day or so. Regarding additional submissions, that’s up to you. I’m really just concerned with documenting the species for the county. Beyond that, it’s your call.

OdonataCentral Submission
The submission at OdonataCentral is here: https://www.odonatacentral.org/index.php/SubmissionAction.getAll/oc/480323
Let me know if anything looks wrong. I guessed at the map coordinates—I can change that if it needs any adjustment.
