Weird Larva - Synchroa punctata

Weird Larva - Synchroa punctata
McCrory Gardens, Brookings, Brookings County, South Dakota, USA
March 26, 2007
Size: 21 mm
Odd looking larva found when gathering rotting wood for my Stra*tegus grub. I believe it was a pine log. Has very interesting urogomphi (I think I got that right), and is actually able to force them together, bringing a pinching sensation on the hand rather than a poking one. Can't say I've seen anything like this one before, mostly just Cuc*ujid larvae and such.
