pink springtail - Ceratophysella

pink springtail - Ceratophysella
Dummer, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
March 27, 2007
Size: 1.4mm
Found in leaf litter.

Thanks Frans
That's a new genus for me.

Ceratophysella sp.
Family = Hypogastruridae.
Note the anal spines.
The most common hypogastrurid springtails fall into 2 genera: Hypogastrura and Ceratophysella. Generally speaking Hypogastrura has a bluish/blackish colour, while Ceratophysella has a more purplish/reddish/brownish colour. Both genera have anal spines and eye clusters of 8 single eyes.
