Although the markings overlap
Although the markings overlap the side margins, I think this is still Syrphus opinator from the frons and shape of the abdominal markings. Vockeroth mentions that markings can sometimes overlap sides.

wing veins
I don't recall how to describe this, but the veins in the left wing, roughly #4 and 5 form the outside are distinctive, they match a Syrphus opinator in the guide, and where that cross vein occurs, I didn't find it in the species you were looking at.

I think Dr. Evil came up with the names for veins and cells. I thought that Genus Syrphus did not show "margination" of the edge between the dorsal and ventral sides of the abdomen. I may be wrong about this as well. I was thinking this was marginated, but now I'm not sure. The black stripes are broken upon closer inspection. But I am going to remain neutral.
