Size: 0.7 mm

This is a paedogenic wood midge, Mycophila speyeri (Barnes 1926)(Diptera: Lestremiidae: Micromyinae). On microscope slide. Adult male, body length is 0.7mm.

Probably not. Mycophila speye

Probably not. Mycophila speyeri was first identified from Great Britain. It is now known from Europe, China and Japan. Here in the US its distribution is from Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland to Virginia. The larvae attack cultivated mushrooms and through shipping and world trade this species has been accidentally introduced to many ports of entry. Because the larvae cause economic damage to the mushroom industry,
there is a great deal of literature surrounding this species.
