Fritillary in Olympic National Park, Washington -
Speyeria

Olympic National Park County, Washington, USA

I'm hoping someone can identify this rather worn fritillary I photographed in the Olympics near the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center.

considering the doubts
about
S. mormonia
even occuring in the Olympics.
I'll move it back under the genus heading. I was probably wrong. Though it does look a lot like it.
Moved from
Speyeria mormonia washingtonia

a female Mormon Fritillary
I believe ssp.
washintonia
is the correct one for the Olympics, but there could be a name specifically for the peninsula that I'm not aware of.

Re. a female Mormon Fritillary
My field guide, and the checklist from Olympic National Park, do not show Mormon Frits in the Olympics. Could it be a Zerene?

It would be good to get more photographs,
including some from the underside. However, I think that checklist might need updated now, because this really looks like
S. mormonia
, and not like any of the other possible species (to me anyway). The proportionately large body (or is is small wings), rounded wing shape, and the pattern are look like
S. mormonia
, and this really doesn't look like
S. zerene
; however, I could be wrong (It wouldn't be the first time). Just out of curiosity, which
Speyeria
species are listed in the checklist for the park? Is it only
S. zerene, hydaspe, & cybele
?

No photos of underside and I am no longer in that state
The Olympic National Park Butterfly list only shows
S. cybele pugetensis
,
S. hydaspe rhodope
, and "
S. zerene
new ssp.?: an unnamed subspecies found in eastern Olympic Mountains." The date on this list is 5/09, obviously needs updating.
