Melanoplus bispinosus - Melanoplus bispinosus - male

Melanoplus bispinosus - Melanoplus bispinosus - Male
North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, USA
September 29, 2014
Warm, very dry, windy afternoon, this remained for only one shot with telephoto lens.

I'm pretty sure M. bispinosus is correct,
so I'll put it with that species. I just wanted to point out that these can be difficult, and was hoping you might have a shot that shows the abdomen better - we don't have many good shots of that end posted here yet. In fact, not many of this species from outside of Texas yet.

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

a male in the genus Melanoplus
There are a few species that look similar. Do you have a photo that shows the end of the abdomen more clearly? The easiest characteristics to separate the species are located there. I think is likely M. bispinosus, but could be M. sanguinipes or another.

No, I don't.
This was just one shot I got from some very active grasshoppers.
