Adults vs. juveniles

If it's not an egg, grub, or pupa, it's an adult. They don't grow once they emerge from pupa and harden.

Well that was going to be my next question because I couldn't figure out how it went from a big grub to a smaller beetle then a bigger beetle and that's why I asked if it was a different species. It's just that at a glance it looks very similar to a June Beetle.

There are so many species,

even of "June" beetles, in all different sizes, that you'll never run out of new ones to find. A big grub = a big beetle. A small beetle comes from a small grub :-)

Serica sp.

most are shiny, but a few are dull, elytra with mechanical diffraction - gives appearance of being 'oily'
