Stuart,
That shape interested me so I went looking in the Notodontas. Had you considered 7993 –
Heterocampa lunata
. I have a friend looking for those so you might catch one if you see it again and don't mind sharing a specimen. It would need a hind wing for an ID and surely is a dark one if my hunch is right.
