Sphinx Moth Caterpillar - Xylophanes tersa

Sphinx Moth Caterpillar - Xylophanes tersa
Private ranch property 15 miles north of Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
September 30, 2014
Size: approximately two inches
The day was overcast and I took photos of this sphinx moth caterpillar just after 12:30pm. It seemed to be in a resting state and didn't move from the spot. I don't know what the plant was that it was on, but I have not noticed this plant on the ranch in the past. We have had 20 inches of rain in September, which is highly unusual for this area. Normally the area receives 12 inches of rainfall per YEAR. I would like to know the specific sphinx moth this is, as well as the plant on which it is resting.

Moved from ID Request.

Likely Tersa Sphinx
Xylophanes tersa. If so then I am afraid that does not help much with the plant. Perhaps something in Rubiaceae, but they have been recorded on plants from other families as well.
