Spider - Metepeira labyrinthea - female

Spider - Metepeira labyrinthea - Female
Elkins Park, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 28, 2014
Mass of detritus in her web camouflaging her egg sack and herself.
Guessing the intent is to look like bird poop.

Here's one of our web shots

A couple of new shots. She was at a better angle in her web to see her better and get a better angle for some shots.
Was also finally able to angle myself to be able to see the orb web and take a shot of that too.
Thank you for the ID!

Excellent!
I'll check for this.

Can't see the spider well
but from the structure we would think this would be the Labyrinth, Metepeira labyrinthea. The web should be a tangled labyrinth with the spider in her hide in the middle of the tangle and a beautiful orb web off to one side.

Bad Angle
Yeah, I really couldn't get a better angle/shot because of the location of the web. I don't recall seeing an orb web nearby, but that doesn't mean there wasn't one.
If I can, I'll go back and check to see if she's still there and try to get some better shots.
