Bee - Osmia lignaria - male

Bee - Osmia lignaria - Male
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
March 25, 2007
Fast moving but beautiful. The blue on the abdomen was deep and intense when it caught the sunlight. Keys out to Andrena genus on Discover Life Key.

Moved
Moved from Blue orchard bee.

Moved
Moved from Osmia.

Osmia
likely O. lignaria lignaria (note the elongate antennae for a megachilid)

note that two submarginal cells (blue Andrena with two sm cells exist, but not in Illinois)

Thanks,
John. I appreciate the tips. It makes this more than rote memorization of images.
