Horned Scale and Crawlers on California Buckeye leaf. - female

Horned Scale and Crawlers on California Buckeye leaf. - Female
Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
September 25, 2014
Size: 5mm, 0.4mm
Update, 10-04-14: Crawlers!

This is a photo of the same large scale different day. I've actually photographed it on a few different days. In this photo you can see the Crawlers! I guess the have legs, though they are not apparent. I had expected something looking much different from the mother, But these look like more elongated versions of the same thing.

-Size of the mother is about 5mm. Size of the crawlers is about 0.4mm

-In response to either my motion, or camera flash the crawlers swiftly moved under the mother. By Shot 3 they were mostly gone. Shot one had them more widely dispersed. The photo showing the crawlers was two out of three. (The were all single shots, not a burst of shots. They aren't that fast!)

-The leaf is dying. Maybe they fall off this time of year anyways.

-I don't think males are present (are they?)
