I was expecting this to be a species of Schinia flower moth but it didn't seem to match any of those well.

Looks like Heliothis virescens

 
I think so too...
I looked at H. virescens but many of the images seemed to suggest that some of the details of the FW banding were inconsistent and the dark-margined underwing of mine was incorrect. Further examination of images makes me think that's OK.
