Sawfly - Acantholyda ruficeps

Sawfly - Acantholyda ruficeps
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
May 4, 2004
I found this sawfly on the neighbor's carport. I thought it was a beetle since I'd never seen a sawfly before. After sending this in for identification, I learned that this may be the first recorded sighting of this species in North Carolina.

Moved
Moved from Acantholyda floridana.

The pronotum and base of the fore femur should be ferruginous in A. floridana as in here or here. The two are otherwise incredibly similar in appearance. A. floridana should be endemic to northern Florida as currently understood.

Well darn, not so rare after all
And thank you!

such shots are every entomologist's dream
you are doing absolutely laudable job, Ma'm!

thanks
