Host plant
I'm curious David - do you happen to remember what plant you found this on? Or if in leaf litter, what plants are were in the area? And if neither of those, a photo of the plant/leaf/etc.? I have an idea of what this is but knowing the plant would definitely be able to help confirm my suspicions.

Host plant
I'm afraid I can't be very helpful. It flew down onto a sheet that was on the ground. Neighboring plants were a gray birch with a large grape vine in it, hickory and maple trees, and a hedgerow with a lot of weedy plants including blackberry, grape, bittersweet, Japanese barberry, and goldenrod. I'm sure there were a lot of other species nearby, too.
