Beetle - Agonum punctiforme

Beetle - Agonum punctiforme
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
April 2, 2007

Moved tentatively
Moved from Agonum.

Moved
Moved from Platynini.

Moved
Moved from Harpalinae.

Even though it may not be needed
I did add a couple more images. And thanks for the ID, Kip!

Platynini
Looks like an Agonum sp.

Kip

Carabidae / Harpalinae - Pterostichini?
Real diagnostic characters invisible, but the strong elytral striation and rather convex pronotum make me think this is rather a member of the abovenamed tribe, than of Platynini. It may be one of the smaller species of Pterostichus.

Please always tell size and habitat, it helps . . .

:-)

Will move
to Harpalinae for now; definitive tribal ID pending on clearer shot of pronotum.

Sorry for just responding
I am trying to get one. They are quite common. I'll comment when I do....

i strongly suspect...
that this pic shows an Agonum

Thanks
for taking a look. I have vowed to put the size of all bugs I post here. This guy was 10 mm and I found him under a concrete block. Thanks again!

Also anything in particular I should take a picture of to help with ID?

Your question
> Also anything in particular I should take a picture of to help with ID?

- That always depends on the type of bug, it is impossible to give advice ahead - only to shoot a series of pictures from different angles.

In this one, a well lighted picture of the pronotum (collar) would be helpful.
