Hand netted as it meandered thru the yard. I have quit a few more images.....sounds like "The Golden State " needs to come to AZ for it's State Butterfly. HaHa! He Ron!

I am humbled.
I shall drive through Arizona with a net attached to The Mazda Theatre for Performing Insects in an attempt to attract a new cast member. Actually, I deplore the choice of the dogface as California'state butterfly, strongly preferring Lorquin's Admiral, which came in second in the balloting. That one I've photographed!
Wait! I think I'm on to your secret. After a closer look at your photos, are you sure you didn't trim the wings on a sulphur and then attack it with poster paint?

The shape of the wing & that Large BLACK circle should have ID'd it for me, without the water trick to get the wings opened for display! & confirmation.
No, Ron.... an artist I am not. Wonder what the AZ State Butterfly is?
Lots of Duskywings here now........I know that I am looking for them more this 2nd year, also.

Oh, Yes. I got some beauties last year. I was surprized to see them so early this year. The Lilac & Hollyhocks were blooming last year when I first saw theme here. The Higher temperatures last month gave many of these critters a jump start this Spring.
