Delphinia picta

Delphinia picta
Atco, Camden County, New Jersey, USA
October 30, 2014
Size: 7mm?
Sorry, sun was too bright... Found in weedy area.
October for New Jersey.

Interesting fly (and wavy wing surfaces!)
Do you think the "undulating" shape of the wings is normal for this species? Or might it be a repercussion of them not getting properly pumped-up and cured when the teneral adult first emerged from the pupa?

At first I assumed the latter...but the left & right wings seem quite symmetric in the surface ruffles.

PS: You find so many interesting bugs! And even ones you call "not great images" I find quite nice :-)

PPS: I just checked the "Images" tab. I guess the undulating wing surface is normal in this species. Strange! Looks like it may be one we don't have way out west.
