Size: about .5 inches
encountered near the locust fork river. It was great at moving laterally across my body when i found it under my shirt. Possibly rock dwelling. i couldnt get it to fly even when i blew it off.

Hippoboscid
Very good at tucking into bird feathers, usually moving lateral. Only fly when absolutely needed. Fortunately they don't blood feed on people.
