and I found it in New Hampshire too! Going to NH must be the secret in finding Ciids:-)
Now that I know how to look for them, I'll be tearing more fungi off trees.

Pronotal horns
Hi Tom,

Great images. Looks like you've got the ciid bug now :-)

Notice how this one's upper horns or tubercles are part of the pronotum whereas those of Richard's ciid arose from the head, which can be clearly seen in a couple of your images of the mystery ciid. Apparently that's one of the differences between genera.

btw, it stikes me you've got the same species as this one of mine.

I know Glenda Orledge was familiar with bugguide but felt Boris was doing a pretty good job and she couldn't add much more. Cristiano seems to have plenty to add though :-)
