On Quercus berberidifolia, my best guess is the bisexual generation of Andricus gigas, but there is insufficient info in Ron Russo's gall book to make an determination...

unknown gall
I don't know what this is (definitely a cynipid though). I've seen it on blue oaks in the Bay Area, one time in somewhat large numbers. It could be the bisexual generation of A. gigas, but I'm not comfortable saying that without further information.

I'll try to look this species up at the Cal Academy... hopefully will be able to go there in the next couple of months. Don't know if they have A. gigas spring generation galls there or not. And I should check at Essig.

Where would I look at Cal Academy?
I am likely going to be there on the 7th of next month, if possible I would love to look at the galls they have. :)
