Lithophane lemmeri? - Lithophane lemmeri

Lithophane lemmeri? - Lithophane lemmeri
Verona, Augusta County, Virginia, USA
November 5, 2014
is this Lithophane lemmeri - Lemmer's Pinion - Hodges#9899 ?

L. lemmeri has been sighted, but very rare, in Virginia as recorded by Steve Roble, Virginia Department of Conservation. A line mid neck is white, rather than black (as in L. thujae) which is the diagnostic feature I used.

I have collected the moth.

Moved from ID Request.

Hi Marcia, another great find! I am certainly no expert with Lithophane, but this is one of those species that stands out. I think your identification is correct, but I will at least move it to the L. lemmeri page rather than let it get lost in ID request until someone more knowledgeable comes along to confirm for us.

confirmation
Steve Roble (VDCR) has confirmed this ID. 8-)
