I found this moth/butterfly on the milkweed in my back yard.While it was eating it was rubbing it's "back" wings together? male/female? It is so pretty. All the colors!

Atlides halesus - Great Purple Hairstreak
Really nice pic of a gorgeous butterfly. It rubs its tails so that a predator will mistake it for the head. Better to lose a tail rather than a head.

I do love this picture.I used it as my screen saver. I also love this little butterfly.He was so territorial. He must have really loved that milkweed. He kept coming back over and over the whole day.Thanks so much for the info.

In my butterfly quest I have yet to see one. Guess I need to head to south TX.
