Wooly Hawthorn Aphid, Eriosoma crataegi? - Eriosoma

Wooly Hawthorn Aphid, Eriosoma crataegi? - Eriosoma
Lodi Twp., Washtenaw County, Michigan, USA
October 2, 2014
Found these on a hawthorn (Crataegus) in an area with many elms (Ulmus) but only a couple of apples. Plucked some off, and cleaned the filaments off a few and found them to be blue-black rather than red, purple, or brown as the Wooly Apple Aphid should be according to this reference - http://bit.ly/1GEmJqK Some authors have considered these to be the same species, but I think they are considered 2 now.
