Small tick - Amblyomma americanum

Small tick - Amblyomma americanum
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
April 3, 2007
Size: 2 mm
My students classified this as a "deer tick" because of its small size but it doesn't seem to fit with any of the images in the guide. Thoughts?

thank you
Just wanted to say thanks for this picture and the ID ... I just found a tiny sucker like this on me after having bites mysteriously appear for several days (couldn't find it!). It looks exactly like this picture, so I'm very grateful for the ID.

you cant really ID
ticks based on size. All ticks come in 3 sizes (small-larvae, medium-nymphs, large-adults). This is absolutely not a deer tick, but it is a nymph of your Lone Star Tick.

What did you find it on?
