Giant Spider! - Hogna carolinensis

This spider was found in mid September on the outside of our door. I'm sure it was seeking a mate although with the proliferation of grasshoppers this time of year he may have been hunting. I have read that it may be a Giant House Spider and some have called it a wolf spider. I would like a positive ID if anyone knows. This is the one and only time I have seen it I know nothing of its habits. Two inches in diameter with the legs. Body was probably 3/4 to one inch. (It looked as big as a dinosaur to me). We live on a cattle ranch so it is not urban.
