Youthful Hopper with an Identity Crisis

Youthful Hopper with an Identity Crisis
Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
June 25, 1991
On rose bush. Given that this is an immature hopper, I know that genus and species would be asking too much. Any help with ID appreciated.

Moved
Moved from Ceresa.

another Ceresa sp.
This is a nymph of Ceresa, the genus that includes the buffalo treehopper and the 3-cornered alfalfa treehopper. The nymphs of the different species are indistinguishable from each other; but the feathery spines down the back are unmistakable. These take different forms dependant on the nymphal growth stage.

Like Ceresa diceros
Andy mentioned to me this was likely that species because Stephen also found adults at the same locale.
