the herd from the green (fungus) pastures - Ceracis thoracicornis - male - female

the herd from the green (fungus) pastures - Ceracis thoracicornis - Male Female
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 6, 2007
Size: 1.6 - 1.8 mm
Here a ciid cow and bull are "king and queen of the mountain" atop a scrap of the green-hued fungus in which they were found. This male has decent-sized rostral and pronotal horns while some males are significantly smaller-sized in one or both horn locations. Any time I have seen flat rostral horns or plates like this they have a dark red cast to them.
