all from this scrap of fungus?
Hi Jim, Did the dozen or so beetles all come from this (25mm?) square piece of fungus? I realize they are small, but that population density makes NJ look like the Outback. I also am realizing more and more that I overlook so many collecting opportunities and techniques. Seems like that would be a great BugGuide Form category.

Actually,
this particular scrap was about ten times larger than the heavily populated piece in which I found these beetles. This section might not have had any. I shot this piece for fungus recognition purposes. (Anybody recognize it?)
