Minute Tree-fungus Beetle Larvae - Ceracis thoracicornis

Minute Tree-fungus Beetle Larvae - Ceracis thoracicornis
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
March 10, 2007
Size: ~ 2 mm
I split open a few unappealing pieces of moldy polypore fungus to reveal many individuals of the Ciid species in this series - larvae, which were most common, adults in different stages of maturity (freshly molted and hardened to black), and a few pupae. There were also adults of Cis and Octotemnus laevis. Here are two of the mature Ciid larvae. The posterior hooks are by now a familiar sight.
