native to the Palaearctic, adventive and widespread in e. NA (NS-ON-ND to NJ-OH-MO) & along the Pacific (sw.BC-n.OR)(1)

Habitat

mainly coniferous forests in wood shavings, near sawmills; occasionally in beaver houses, river banks and vacant lots(2)
