Euphoria species, sepulcralis? - Protaetia fusca

Euphoria species, sepulcralis? - Protaetia fusca
Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
December 17, 2014
We get Euphoria sepulcralis outbreaks annually in December, but wanted to double-check the ID, as most of the ones I've seen have been "stereotypical," meaning the markings match the ones in Arthur Evans's guide to beetles of Eastern N.A., or the others I've seen online. But no other species looks closer, and I understand that the markings on the elytra are variable.

Protaetia
Looks like Protaetia fusca, a relative of Euphoria.

Thanks!
And the one reference article listed in the guide was to the one I independently Googled after you pointed me to the right species name. Very interesting reading. Thanks for your help!
