? Ponometia sutrix - Tarache abdominalis

? Ponometia sutrix - Tarache abdominalis
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
August 4, 1962
Size: 23 mm wing span
The closest I could get was Hodges #9119 Pononmetia sutrix. The forewing coloration was quite similar. I don't know how much variation there is in the different species.

Moved tentatively
Moved from Acontiini. This is a solid match for a female Tarache abdominalis, but is outside of the known range. See here for more info.

Tarache knowltoni?
Range would make Tarache knowltoni more likely. The white spot on the costa near the apex is relatively small and the dark basal area is poorly connected to the outer dark area. Not sure if this should be moved to knowltoni or bumped up to genus. I don't think abdominalis is well supported but really not sure.

Just a thought ...
I can't think of any Ponometia with dark basal area. Have you checked out Tarache

Humm
I checked it out again. The first picture of the Ponometia sutrix in MPG had a darker base. I was going more with the general forewing pattern and the uniform darker brown in the hind wings. Most of the Tarache had whiter hind wings.
