Found in soil under Pine trees

Size: 1.5"
Found under Monterey Pine trees, about 6-8" deep underground (which is about the boundary between the pine mulch and soil). There were half a dozen near each other.

I've cropped the photo and moved it to the unidentified beetle larvae section for the time being. The head is a little out of focus, but I would think there's enough detail here for someone who is familiar with these larvae to recognize it. There are only so many bugs that are this big!

Do you have any other photos of these that might be clearer?
...
Perhaps a tenebrionid of some kind? It looks similar to the larvae of Bolitotherus, but they clearly can't be (these are huge!)

I don't have any more photos, but I will dig around and see if I can find more specimens and then take better pictures.
