By all means, please mail me this important specimen
or any other similar Pseudaptinus/Thalpius as you offered in your profile. Subgenus Thalpius and subgenus Pseudaptinus are some of my areas of ground beetle research and the California fauna is still somewhat mysterious in these regards. The head and pronotum shape suggest Pseudaptinus tenuicollis more than Thalpius rufulus but I would need to examine specimen to be sure. I haven't ruled out subgenus Pseudaptinus from my distant view of these images (antenomere 3 does appear shorter than 4 and, most importantly, I can't see pedunculate pronotal base). My profile gives directions/address for mailing. Thanks much!

Pseudaptinus oviceps Van Dyke vs P. tenuicollis (Leconte)
is now my best image-based opinion. Both species are known in CA - the former only recorded in the type locality near Los Angeles in southern CA; the latter is widespread. Your specimen in Sutter Co. is in the northern third of the state. Van Dyke (1926) says oviceps looks very much like tenuicollis but its ovate & narrower head, small eyes, and prominent mandibles separates it from tenuicollis. Images could be interpreted to support oviceps. At any rate, I look forward to studying this specimen. Thank you "damunoz" for supporting the BuGuide effort and my research.

carabid, rather --nice one, too
