Unidentified Moth - Acrolophus mora
Rock Island State Park, Tennessee, USA
October 22, 2014
Size: about 30 mm in length
The moth was found during a day trip sitting quite prominent on a leaf.
All effort to idebtify it failed until now.
Does anybody know, what it is ?

Moved
Moved from Tubeworm Moths.

genus Acrolophus
The tubeworm moths are somewhat variable, but I can not identify this to species level with any confidence ...

take a look here at the variances: http://bugguide.net/node/view/18147/bgimage?from=0

Unidentified Moth - Acrolophus
Thank you Marcia and Maury for enlighten me on this one.
Acropholidae is a family of months I am certainly not familiar with, as they just don't exist in Europe. This is an entirely New World family, with a pretty extensive variation in the US, as it looks like.
Having now read more about it and searching the accessible literature, I suggest it could be a female of Acrolophus morus.
Time of appearance, location and size would fit.
What do you think ?
Merry Christmas from Germany.

Acrolophus species

Will try to lighten this one later to see details better for species.
