Psocodea, question - Lepinotus reticulatus Weaver Dunes, Wabasha County, Minnesota, USA September 21, 2014 Size: 1.2 mm
Question:
When cleaning out the rearing jars, especially the ones with milled peat at the bottom, often months after the rearing is complete, I sometimes find these guys running around. Where are they coming from? My first guess would be the added substrate, usually peat, rather than the plant material for the feeding larva(e). If that's the case, then location would be where the peat came from, the garage where it is stored?
Thanks.
Found in the rearing jar of a Plume Moth on Western Ragweed (collected at Weaver Dunes). This may or may not be from the Weaver Dunes collectioin. It may be from the stored peat (in the garage) I use as substrate. Or it may be from round and about. But I'm listing this at the location where the initial collection occurred.
