Beetle ID request! Fuzzy Beetle in Kelso Dunes near Mojave Desert - Edrotes ventricosus
Kelso Dunes in the Mojave Desert, California, USA
July 1, 2013
Size: 2 CM
Hi, saw these little fuzzy beetles in the KElso Dunes in California near the Mojave Desert. They seemed to be very cuddly to each other. Anyone know what kind of beetle they are?

Moved from Edrotes.

The "tuberculate" texture of elytra and conspicuous longitudinal stripes of "pollen" on the elytra indicate E. ventricosus...the most commonly encountered and widespread species in the genus.

(PS: I too find them cuddly & endearing :-)

Edrotes sp.
A type of darkling beetle. They scavenge on decaying plant and animal matter, and make great pets, lol!
