Thread-legged bug - Emesaya brevipennis

Thread-legged bug - Emesaya brevipennis
n.w. Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
January 10, 2014
Size: Total length 31-32mm
This thread-legged bug was photographed on a window screen at a porchlight. Total body length (w/o legs; measured using window screen dimensions) = 31-32mm. Fore femur ~ 5 to 6mm.

Based on Wygodzinsky (1966), only two spp of Emesaya are found in Texas, E. brevipennis and E. banksi. I worked through the keys and descriptions in that monograph and as best I can determine, the present critter matches E. brevipennis. E. banksi would have a much longer fore femur (9 mm).
