This insect dropped onto the dining room table after our Christmas dinner. Family was indulgent, since there is one entomologist and one entomology enthusiast in the family. Yes, it is sitting on a Christmas cookie in the one photograph. Possibly a parasite on the left side of its abdomen?

The telltale pronotal spots are quite faint, but they do appear to be present--similar to this one:
